GRAND MARAIS -- Cook County Attorney Tim Scannell was charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct today over an alleged inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old girl. While the victim in the case was older than 16 -- the age of consent in Minnesota -- Scannell was more than four years older than her, and in a position of authority, which makes the incident a criminal offense. A grand jury returned the indictment on Oct. 22. Scannell, 47, made an appearance today in Cook County and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 12. He was released on his own recognizance.
