Lake Connections, Lake County's fiber optic network, announced three new hires at its Two Harbors headquarters last week. Josh Innis was hired as a member of the inspection team. Innis' responsibilities include completing drops to homes and businesses, conducting outside plant inspection and home installations. He studied network administration at Lake Superior College in Duluth and previously worked in point-of-sale administration in Washington State. Eric Johnson was hired as network administrator and holds a degree in network administration from Lake Superior College.
Bill and Mary Johnson live just off the Valley Road in Two Harbors and got some unexpected visitors last Wednesday just past dinner time. "My wife said, 'Oh my God, there are three bears out there,'" Bill recalled. He said they've had bears in the yard before, but not in a few years and not so many at once.
The Silver Bay Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) is holding their first annual Walkathon. The event is May 16, beginning at 9 a.m. Walkers are encouraged to raise pledges prior to the event, and those who raise at least $25 in pledges will receive a T-shirt and be entered into a drawing for door prizes. The walkers with the top three pledge amounts in three different age categories will win one of three sets of prizes. Registration will take place prior to the event on May 14 from 7 to 8 a.m. and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in front of the William Kelley Community Education Office.

The Two Harbors Soccer Club has announced meetings for summer registration. The soccer club is part of the Arrowhead Youth Soccer Association. Summer registration begins on Monday, April 27 at Two Harbors High School. Registration events will also be held at William Kelley High School on April 28 and North Shore Community School on April 29. All registration events will be from 5 to 7 p.m. each night. The Two Harbors Community Radio No-See-Um Radio Theater group is accepting applications for a producer/director position. The radio theater group is hoping to air at least two shows a month once the radio station is broadcasting. They are accepting applications until April 20 for the position of producer/director of the group. The No-See-Um group first performed at the station's Cabin Fever Reliever fundraising event and was recently awarded an AGE to Age Two Harbors "Lake Effect" mini-grant.
