Nearly 50 people turned out for a discussion on sex trafficking Monday at the Two Harbors Community Center. The speakers included Nigel Perrote, the Northwest Regional Navigator for Safe Harbor at PAVSA in Duluth, psychotherapist Lindsey Saukko, Edward Downs, an associate professor in communication at the University of Minnesota Duluth, and Sergeant Grant Snyder and his daughter Michaela. Team Osbakken, a junior womens curling team skipped by Two Harbors native Courtney Osbakken, wrapped up their run at the national championships in Devils Lake, N.D., last Thursday. They won two of their games, one against a team from Massachusetts and one from Illinois. They were defeated in seven matches and didn't move onto the round robin finals. The girls are still eligible to compete next year.
Three students from Lake County were named to Mesabi Range College's honor lists. Curtis Johnson and Blake LeBlanc were named to the fall 2014 honors list and Anita Hietala was named to the fall 2014 high honors list. To be included on the honor list a student must receive a GPA between 3.5 and 3.74. To be included on the high honor list a student must receive a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Two students from Lake County were named to Minnesota State University-Moorhead's dean's list. Elena Parker of Silver Bay and Madalynn Swanson of Two Harbors earned the honor.

Citizens interested in learning about or commenting on Minnesota Department of Natural Resources strategies for managing Finland area lakes and streams have until Friday, Feb. 20 to ask questions or submit comments. Management plans describe the past, present and desired future conditions of the water resources. The plans identify specific management activities planned for that lake or stream in the next five to 20 years. Every year, DNR fisheries staff prepares or revises individual lake and stream management plans for several waters in each management area.

Beargrease will start in Two Harbors This year, the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon headquarters were moved to Two Harbors. This week, it was announced that the race will have an even stronger Lake County flavor. Race officials announced Sunday that the race will also start in Lake County, thanks to a lack of snow in the regular starting point of Duluth. The race will begin at 2 p.m. on Jan.
