USDA FOREST SERVICE SUPERIOR NATIONAL FOREST TOFTE RANGER DISTRICT LAKE COUNTY, MINNESOTA WINDY PROJECT Comments are requested on the Windy Environmental Assessment (EA). The Environmental Assessment is available on the Superior National Forest website at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/superior/projects. It is also available upon request from the Tofte Ranger District Office at P. O. Box 2159, Tofte MN 55615. Additional information regarding this project can be obtained from Becky Bartol, at the Tofte Ranger District, telephone (218) 663-8600. The Windy Project objectives are to promote diverse, productive, healthy and resilient native vegetation communities, improve moose habitat, improve riparian area function, provide sustainable timber products and reduce hazardous fuels. The Windy Project is located in Lake County about 15 miles northwest of Tofte, Minnesota (in Township (T) 61 North (N) Range (R) 8 West (W), R7W, R6W; T60N, R8W, R7W, R6W. Comments should be submitted to Kurt Steele, District Ranger by one of the following methods: mail to P.O. Box 2159, Tofte MN 55615; Attn: Windy Project EA; telephone (218) 663-8060; fax (218) 663-8095; or email: comments-eastern-superior-tofte@fs.fed.us. Please put "Windy Project EA" in the subject line of faxed or emailed comments. Office hours for those who wish to hand deliver their comments or provide them orally are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday (except federal holidays) at the Tofte Ranger District Office or by telephone during those hours. Acceptable formats for electronic comments are text (.txt), MS Word 6.0 or higher (.doc), portable document format (.pdf), or rich text format (.rtf). Written comments must be filed within 30 days, beginning the day after this publication is in the Duluth News Tribune. If the comment period ends on a Saturday, Sunday or on a Federal holiday, comments will be accepted until the end of the next federal working day. No comments will be accepted after the 30-day comment period ends. Only individuals or organizations who submit timely and specific written comments (as defined at 36 CFR 218.2) about this project during this 30 day comment period on the Environmental Assessment, or previously submitted comments during the April 2013 scoping period, are eligible to file an objection to the Windy Project.
