Last year, Two Harbors High School and Mesabi Range Community and Technical College began a one-year welding program for anyone wanting the opportunity to gain college credit and learn a marketable trade.
Yet the program is facing potential cuts, officals say, due to lack of students.
Last summer a manufacturers’ committee was formed in Lake County. It consisted of school district employees, business owners, manufacturers and the Two Harbors Area Chamber of Commerce. Its mission was to address the need for local welders and millwrights to fill job vacancies.
