For those who know of the Veterans’ Memorial Gate and its journey throughout the years, well, it recently got its final plaque. The gate has been through quite a lot since its earlier days when it was erected near Silver Creek. Over the years, that site became overgrown, virtually obscuring the gate which served as a memorial to local servicemen..
Early last Monday morning, veterans from all over the state, including 53 from the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay, began boarding boats at the Knife River Marina for a day of fresh air and fishing.
In June, the News Chronicle published an article about the new site of the Veterans Memorial Forest and the committed members of the Two Harbors Class of 1962 also known as the “Nifty Crew of ‘62” who made it possible.
