Karen Erickson has seen it before. The owner of Gooseberry Cabins in Castle Danger on Monday pointed to the 30-foot cabin cruiser from Superior dashed onto what is known at the Castle Danger reef on Lake Superior.
August opens with Lammas, or the festival of loaves, an ancient Celtic celebration of the season’s first harvest. The August 1 holiday was one of four cross-quarter days falling midway between a solstice and an equinox.

A group that opposes the use of motorized recreational vehicles on public lands has asked Minnesota to stop spending millions of gas tax dollars on programs for snowmobiles, boats, dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles and fix roads and bridges instead.
