(Photo by Monica Isley) Winter doesn't keep hardy souls from venturing out on Two Harbors' breakwater, but Sunday found even more people than usual checking out the slowly melting ice. Cameras in hand, this group strolled out to the end and back, following in the footsteps of others who'd been there before them. Just off the frame, die-hard ice fishermen huddled for what might be some of the last fishing of the season.
(Photo by Monica Isley) It may be March, and spring may officially be less than two weeks away, but Two Harbors' popular breakwater gave onto steam and ice on Thursday. Frigid air temps caused the mist to rise from the open water, while the frozen stuff still hugs the shore.
(Photo by Monica Isley) The presence of an ice shanty says the ice is thick enough. More fish shanties could be found beyond the docks on Saturday, which was clear and cold. Monday morning, intrepid fishermen continued to haul their gear out onto the frozen surface.
