ON FAITH
On Faith: Transformed
George Homes, a British pastor and my homiletics instructor once said, “Nature forms us, education informs us, sin deforms us, and society tries to reform us- but only Christ can transform us.” The transforming power of Jesus Christ is evident in the lives of the billions who have been touched and changed by the Gospel.By Jim Joseph, Pastor, Living Waters Fellowship , August 23, 2012
On Faith: Learning to trust God
A friend and fellow pastor told me about their Senior Recognition Sunday, held this past June for the graduating seniors from their church. My friend had focused his service in terms of preaching and prayers around this event, and it worked perfectly, except for one thing-- no graduating seniors showed up! In the swirl of events, and for a variety of reasons, none of them were able to attend and no one was aware of it. Which can only mean-- it’s time for plan B!By Susan Berge, pastor, Knife River Lutheran Church , August 16, 2012
On Faith: The significance of a hand shake
Like pastors everywhere, I do it hundreds of times a year. I shake the hands of parishioners as they leave Church, wishing each a blessed day and week. It’s a gesture as much routine as it is taken for granted. Yet, it is also one that is at times significant beyond measure.By Father Michael Lyons, Pastor, Holy Spirit in Two Harbors and St. Mary's in Silver Bay , August 09, 2012
On Faith: Remember the true significance of the Cross
If you were to ask your average fellow citizen about the significance of the cross, you might hear something about an innocent man being persecuted and sentenced for crimes he did not commit. You might hear that He was a model for all who stand up for their beliefs. Many people know only the bare facts of the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth and its violation of human justice. But many seem to miss the point that there may have been a purpose, an accomplishment at the cross, that we needed Jesus to die on the cross.By Rev. Joseph R. Whiting, Pastor at the Grace Baptist Church, Two Harbors , August 02, 2012
On Faith: The Big "Why?"
The four “Little W” questions — Who? What? Where? When? — we can handle. Those deal in facts we can answer. It’s the “Big W,” the Why question, that baffles us.By Mark Hillmer, pastor at Bethlehem Lutheran Church , July 20, 2012
On Faith: Four stages in love's journey
“Love” is a word we use freely in our culture to mean all sorts of things. We “love” chocolate. We “love” our city. We “love” our children. But do we really mean the same thing when we use the word “love” in these ways? Almost 900 years ago Bernard of Clairvaux, a monk, set out to map the progression of love in our spiritual awakening.By Rev. Lawrence S. Lee, Pastor , July 13, 2012
On faith: Put compassion back in fashion
Attitudes determine outcomes. They are a source of blessing for oneself and others.By Fr. Michael Lyons, Holy Spirit, Two Harbors , September 29, 2011
On faith: God is who we have to please
Pleasing God is the right goal because it is the ultimate motivation. The thought of a face-to-face meeting with the Creator naturally leads to a desire to live the right kind of life.By Pastor Joseph Whiting, Grace Baptist Church, Two Harbors , September 22, 2011
On Faith: Find what your treasures are
By Pastor Scott Nelson, First Baptist Church, Two Harbors , September 15, 2011
On faith: Plenty to think about this month
Even in our busy lives, September is a time of anticipation and change.By From Pastor Jim Joseph, Living Waters Fellowship , September 08, 2011
On faith: Feed your soul, not the plant
This August I had the great fun of participating in a production of “Little Shop of Horrors.” While a comic musical, it has a dark and tragic ending made all the more tragic because it was completely avoidable. The question that remains with me is: Where was the church?By Rev. Lawrence Lee, United Church of Two Harbors , August 25, 2011
On faith: Good news on the afterlife
No wonder the Gospel means “good news.”By Pastor John H. Reppe, Basset Congregational Church, Brimson , August 18, 2011
On faith: Love lights way back to church
Why are fewer Americans attending church on a regular basis? Why is the Christian faith becoming more and more irrelevant in our daily lives?By Pastor Jim Joseph, Living Waters Fellowship, Two Harbors , August 11, 2011
On faith: Cherish home, wherever you are
I would invite you for a few moments to reflect upon the concept of home. Having a home, heading to your home, being at home. What does home mean to you?By Pastor Susan Berge, Knife River Lutheran Church , August 04, 2011
On Faith: A Harry Potter lesson on gospel
Like many, I’m looking forward to the final installment of the Harry Potter films in a couple weeks.By Rev. Lawrence Lee, United Church of Two Harbors , June 30, 2011
