Some answers have come concerning the corrosion eating away at steel pilings in the Duluth-Superior Harbor or St. Louis River, according to a recently published journal study from researchers who have examined the spots for two years.

That was quite evident last Saturday at the 16th annual Knife River Solstice Run/Walk when about 80 participants and 30 volunteers came together to make the event a success.
Laura Stone holds samples of the stones that will be used to make a mosaic in the patio of Knife River Lutheran Church. The project has been delayed for a while, but a mosaic marathon on June 6, utilizing the talents of willing amateurs, will finally bring the project to fruition, Stone said. Many volunteers are needed, who will be given a crash course in "beach stone mosaics." For the complete story, see this week's Lake County News-Chronicle, which will be on the stands May 14.
