The Brimson Area Fire Department held its 31st annual Brimson Sisu 4.4 mile race last Saturday with runners competing from as far away as China. The event, organized by race director Lynn Boggie and a team of volunteers, drew 253 athletes. Race headquarters was set up at the Toimi School Community Center, where vendors sold their wares and fire department volunteers served lunch. The proceeds were earmarked to support the efforts of the BAFD and meet needs in the community, said race volunteer, Wendy Robertson.
Beginning Thursday, Aug. 16, St. Louis County Public Works will be replacing culverts on Highway 55 (Two Harbors – Brimson Road) from Highway 44 to the St. Louis County border. Highway 55 will be closed to traffic and a detour will be posted.

The United States Postal Service announced Tuesday that it has agreed to delay the closing or consolidation of any post office or mail processing facility until May 1, 2012. This includes delaying the potential closing of the Brimson Post Office, which was named as one of the facilities that the Postal Service would be evaluating.
