Bayside Chatter: Gun safety class a success 
On Monday, 13 students and one adult participated in the Silver Bay firearms safety class field day. Each student learned about tree stands, demonstrated proper gun handling and got to shoot live ammunition at the rifle range. All students successfully completed the class.

The Silver Bay Blue Line Club 27th annual summer hockey school began Saturday with 140 players and concludes Sunday.

Bayside Chatter: July 23 
Northwoods Cafe of Silver Bay defeated the Leinies Legends 14-2 in six innings to win the 26th annual wooden bat softball tournament last weekend at Bob Gregg Field in Finland. Northwoods had to beat Leinies twice to win the title and they were up to the task.

The Silver Bay 16U girls fastpitch softball team took second place at the Lake Superior Classic tournament in Duluth. They fell 4-3 to Becker/Big Lake in the final.

Bayside Chatter: Spring all-stars named 
Three Mariners were named to the Section 7A All-Tournament Softball Team. They were senior Kirstin Sandstrom, junior Jessalyn Rowlee and sophomore Taylor Guzzo. Sandstrom was also named to the Duluth News-Tribune All-Area Softball Team.

The 40th annual Rocky Taconite softball tournament, scheduled for next weekend in Silver Bay is cancelled after only one team signed up as of June 17.

Hunter Panetti, an infielder and pitcher and the only senior on the Mariner baseball team, was named to the 13-man Polar League All Conference Team.
