On Faith: The significance of a hand shake
Like pastors everywhere, I do it hundreds of times a year. I shake the hands of parishioners as they leave Church, wishing each a blessed day and week. It’s a gesture as much routine as it is taken for granted. Yet, it is also one that is at times significant beyond measure.

On Faith: Remember the true significance of the Cross
If you were to ask your average fellow citizen about the significance of the cross, you might hear something about an innocent man being persecuted and sentenced for crimes he did not commit. You might hear that He was a model for all who stand up for their beliefs. Many people know only the bare facts of the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth and its violation of human justice. A witness to the crime was being questioned by the prosecuting attorney when she was asked the following sequence of questions: “Were you at the store at the time of the robbery?” “Yes,” was the reply. “And did you see the faces of the two robbers?” The witness nodded. The attorney then turned up the intensity of his questioning and asked in a loud voice, “Are these two men present in the courtroom today?” There was no need for a reply, however. The two defendants immediately raised their hands.

Veteran inventor inspires
Rogenald Keller, the oldest resident of the Silver Bay Veteran’s Home, has always been an inventor. Ask him about himself and if you’re lucky you might get treated to a story about his time in Army’s Horse Cavalry during high school, service in the Marines during World War II, or tiger sharks encountered on deep-sea fishing trips. But he tends to bring the conversation back, one way or another, to the technical details of his many inventions.
