On Tuesday afternoon, the students from the Two Harbors DECA team gathered in an empty classroom in Two Harbors High School. They had arrived just 36 hours before from Anaheim, Calif. and though they appeared exhausted, they chattered excitedly about their trip to the International Career Development Conference over the weekend. The conference also serves as the international competition for DECA students.

The event was sponsored by the North Shore Evangelical Fellowship and was one of many similar events taking place all over the country.

Many children look forward to the end of the school year. Summer means soccer, softball, camping, reading or time to hang out with friends. For some kids, however, no school means long hungry days, since their most reliable source of nutrition is school lunch. The problem is particularly acute in our region. Last year a report by Hunger Free Minnesota found that Lake County has the highest rate of child hunger in the state.
