On Saturday, April 20, the Two Harbors Moose Lodge will be hosting a smelt fry. The event is open to the public and will be a fund raiser for its scholarship fund and the Two Harbors Area Food Shelf.

Elijah's Pantry just got cooler
Elijah’s Pantry, a food shelf operated out of the Living Waters Fellowship in Two Harbors, recently purchased a commercial refrigerator thanks to a grant from Louisiana Pacific Foundation, a charitable arm of Louisiana Pacific Corporation and $500 from the senior class at Lakeview Christian Academy in Duluth, said Pastor Jim Joseph of Living Waters. The students’ money came from fund raising efforts for their senior class trip.

If one smelt fry just wasn’t enough to satisfy your craving for the savory silvery snack, you’re in luck. The Two Harbors Moose Lodge will be opening its doors to the public once again, offering a plate of deep fried smelt, cole slaw and french fries for $8 on Wednesday, May 8.

Many children look forward to the end of the school year. Summer means soccer, softball, camping, reading or time to hang out with friends. For some kids, however, no school means long hungry days, since their most reliable source of nutrition is school lunch. The problem is particularly acute in our region. Last year a report by Hunger Free Minnesota found that Lake County has the highest rate of child hunger in the state.
