While some roads may have remained intact during the storm, the next few weeks are expected to show how much hidden damage was done in the area.

  • A crew from the Minnesota Department of Transport-ation surveyed damage at Silver Creek Wednesday morning on Minnesota Highway 61 north of Two Harbors, just before the Silver Cliff tunnel. Conditions on the main highway along the North Shore are tenuous, with roadsides washed away at nearly every stream and river and debris littering the aprons.

East Alger Grade in the area also washed out as the creek swelled Tuesday night. Lake County officials said Thursday that at least a quarter of county roads were damaged by high water this week.
