Don Warner, 72, Silver Bay, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday April 11 at his home, while working on the farm.
Don was born October 12, 1940, to Edward and Mable (Porter) Warner in Bertha, Minn. He graduated from Two Harbors High School. He served in the Army from 1959-1962.
He worked as a maintenance mechanic at Reserve Mining in Silver Bay, Minn., for 28 years until the plant closing. He was then employed at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay as a van driver, retiring in 2011, allowing him to spend more time on his 80- acre farm raising registered Black Angus cattle. According to Don, the best herd in the state of Minnesota! He liked to travel, finding the most pleasure in jumping in his car and letting it take him on the scenic road of life. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandchildren of whom he was very proud.
He maintained active membership in the Minnesota Soil and Water Conservation Board, Cooperative Light and Power Board of Directors, Lake County Fair Board, and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In 1998, he was selected as the Lake County Farm Family of the year for implementing many conservation practices on his farm.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, baby brother, John, and nephew, Rick Warner.
He is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Warner of Littleton, Colo.; Jackie Miller of Sauk Rapids, Minn.; grandchildren, Lucas and Josie Miller, Sauk Rapids; brothers, Gerald of Clearbrook and George (Carol) of Hibbing; and a sister, Eileen (LeRoy) Uhlenkamp of Clarissa, and nieces and nephews.
A visitation was held on April 17, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay.
A visitation will be held from 10:30 to the 11:30 Prayer Service Friday, April 19, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Clarissa, followed by burial in St Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the Minnesota Veterans Home Silver Bay Chapel Fund.
