Marek Fuller, 91, of Two Harbors, passed away on Friday, March 1 with his family by his side in Lakeview Hospital in Two Harbors.
Marek was born Mark Skinner in Great Falls, Mont., on March 14, 1921. After graduating from high school he went on to attend the University of Chicago. While attending college he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Marek served as a tail gunner on a B-25 and flew over 25 missions. After serving his country honorably, he returned to the University of Chicago to finish his education. He completed master’s degrees in psychology and social work and worked as a therapist in Chicago for many years.
In 1970, Marek moved to Two Harbors where he continued his career in social work with St. Louis County. During this time he developed many innovative programs. Marek also taught social work at the University of Minnesota Duluth for 18 years. After his retirement he continued his work on social justice issues up until his death.
Marek had vast interests including international travel and tending to his apple orchard. He was the original founder of the Two Harbors Folk Festival, a passionate environmentalist and outdoorsman, an accomplished musician, an avid sports fan and a supporter of local athletics. Most of all he loved his family.
Marek is survived by his partner in life, Jan Errickson; nine children; 15 grandchildren; two sisters and many extended family members, colleagues and friends.
Gathering of family and friends will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in Marek and Jan’s residence, 1795 Highway 2, in Two Harbors.
