Lee Hanson, 83, of Two Harbors, died Thursday, Jan. 31, in her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on March 3, 1929, to Oliver and Pennie (Shoulders) Harrell in Rich Square, North Carolina. She grew up in Murfreesboro, N.C. and graduated from high school there in 1948. Lee graduated from nurses training at Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Va., in 1951. Also in 1951, Lee married Clifford “Ted” Hanson in Elizabeth City, N.C. During her career she was employed as a nurse at Apponaug County Hospital in Apponaug, R.I., Santa Rosa County Hospital in Milton, Fla., City Hospital in Virginia Beach, Va., St. Joseph Hospital in Meridian, Miss., and Lake View Memorial Hospital in Two Harbors until 1985. With her husband, Lee designed, built, and operated Penmarallter Campground in Two Harbors until retiring in 1992.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and TOPS Minnesota # 245.
Lee enjoyed feeding her family and friends, baking, and crocheting. Her southern fried chicken and biscuits were well known in the community.
Lee is survived by husband, Cliff “Ted”; children, Pennie (Stan) Burton of Two Harbors, Clifford Allen ( Sharon) Hanson of Plymouth, Marilyn ( Chris) Deg of Rochester, and Terry Gilbertson (Mike) of Duluth; 9 grandchildren Shanna, Sherri, Curtis, Heather, Stephanie, Jackie, Katie, James, and Laura Kate; 5 great-grandchildren Brett, Will, Gabriel, Seth, and Nathan; sister, Ruth Phelps; brother Lloyd Harrell; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. To sign the online register book please visit www.cavallinfuneralhome.com.
