Kathy J. Helvig, age 65, of Mankato, died on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.
A remembrance gathering will be held Wedneday, Oct. 10 from 4- 7p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary to celebrate Kathy’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army.
Kathy Helvig was born to John and Harriet MacArthur on July 30, 1947, in Ashland, Wisc.
The MacArthur family moved to Beaver Bay,
Minn., in 1952. She graduated from Silver Bay High School in 1965.
Kathy was united in marriage with Richard E. Helvig on Oct. 15, 1965. They lived most of their lives in Mankato, where they raised their two daughters.
Kathy worked for 30 years at Shopko as head cashier and service desk supervisor, making many good friends along the way. She was always up for a visit from her kids, grandkids and friends – her cookie jar was always full with her famous homemade cookies! She enjoyed working around the house, reading, and motorcycle trips all around the USA.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; two daughters, Julie (Sherman) Kranz of Good Thunder and Lori (Eric) Colvin of Fairmont; seven
grandchildren, Audrey (Mitch) Burgess of Mankato, Eva, Olivia, and Alex Kranz all of Good Thunder and Macree, Chloe and Ashford Colvin of Fairmont; three brothers, Sandy MacArthur of Carson, Calif., Joel MacArthur of Hollywood, Calif. and John (Alie) MacArthur of Boquete, Panama.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Harriet MacArthur.
