Mary Ann Valberg, 75, of Silver Bay, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012, from a head injury she sustained after a fall.
Mary Ann Valberg, 75, of Silver Bay, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012, from a head injury she sustained after a fall.
Mary Ann was born Sept. 30, 1936, to Thomas and Opal (Hopkins) Scully in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Mary Ann and Luther Valberg began corresponding by mail when a classmate showed her his picture. She saw a dashing young sailor and after four years they were married April 6, 1957, in St. Peter.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Phyllis Scully; and her son, Scott Valberg.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Luther Valberg of Silver Bay; a brother and sister, Thomas Scully and Linda (Scully) Grace; her two daughters, Lesa and Dick Turnbull of Duluth and Tonya and John Stone of Norwalk, Iowa; and a daughter-in-law Felicia Valberg in Port Orchard, Wash.
Mary Ann’s grandchildren include Heather and Kelly Booth, Grace Nesgoda, Jennifer (Nelson) Eklov, Leslie (Nelson) Cowger, Scott Nelson, Mary and Rachel Valberg, several step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mary Ann enjoyed Bible studies, walking, flowers, crossword puzzles and shopping. Mostly, she loved being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.
A funeral service begins at 3 p.m. Saturday at Sychar Lutheran Church, 14 Edison Blvd., Silver Bay.
