Joseph A. Sunderman, age 85, of Austin, and formerly of Silver Bay, died Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay.
Joseph A. Sunderman, age 85, of Austin, and formerly of Silver Bay, died Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay.
Joe was born April 7, 1927, in Glidden, Wis., to Bernard and Pauline Sunderman. On Nov. 17, 1949, he was married to Grace Kreason in San Francisco.
Joe was a World War II veteran. He worked at Reserve Mining and was also involved with the Masonic Lodge in Silver Bay. Joe and Grace moved to Austin in 1971 where Joe worked at the Austin Utilities and was involved with the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph (Teri) Sunderman of Austin, Larry (Janet) Sunderman of Austin, and Jerry (Karen) Sunderman, of Marion, Iowa; six daughters, Peggy (Tom) Leonard of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Bonnie (Dennis) Laug of Knoxville, Mary Jo (Larry) Sutherland of Finland, Norma (Alan) Otto of Everly, Iowa, Linda Sunderman (Karen Wales) of Rockaway, N.J., Paula Parker of Austin; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Mary White of Austin.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Grace Sunderman; son, Roy Sunderman; brother, Larry Sunderman; and grandson, Chase Miller.
A memorial service was held Monday at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin. Military rites to honor both Joe and Grace were by American Legion Post 91.
