Robert (Bob) Richard Cooper, 79, of Isle, died on Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Mille Lacs Health Care System in Onamia.

Bob was born on March 15th, 1933, in St. James, Minn. to Marion and Helen (Jahnke) Cooper. In his childhood he lived in the Forest Lake area before moving to Isle. He was an avid Boy Scout.

On July 17, 1953, he married the love of his life, Tinsie (Shelton) Cooper in Mora. They lived in Idun Township west of McGrath. In December of 1961, they moved to Finland where they lived and raised their family for 35 years. In 1996, Bob and Tinsie moved back to Idun Township to enjoy their retirement closer to their families. Bob was a hard worker who worked as a mechanic and at Reserve Mining in Silver Bay for many years (even through many changes at the company) from where he retired. He and Tinsie then were co-owners of the 1865 Café in McGrath with his daughter, Deb, and granddaughter, Tory, before they re-retired.

Bob loved the outdoors and a number of hobbies including hunting and fishing, and passed these traits onto his family. He loved to talk about the birds and wildlife he saw in his backyard, his gun collection and his favorite pick to get rid of those “darn Starlings!”, and his favorite John Deere tractor, “Old Johnny Putt Putt.” He also loved visiting with family and friends and playing a good game of cards. Anyone who stopped at Bob and Tinsie’s for a visit was greeted with a smile, warm welcome, and fun times. Bob will always be remembered as the “jokester” of the family who always gave you grief with that big grin on his face, waiting for you to laugh along with him once you realized he was picking on you! That grin and hearty laugh will be sadly missed.

Bob was greeted at the gates of heaven by loving wife Tinsie; his parents Marion and Helen Cooper; sister Martha Bergman; brothers Ralph Cooper, Gordon Cooper, Marion Cooper, and Larry Cooper; and brother-in-laws Wayne Bergman, Vernon Sinell, and Norman Ecklund.

Bob is survived by his sons Roy (Marsha) Cooper of Ogilvie and Larry (Patricia) Cooper of Braham; daughter Debra Montzka of Isle; granddaughter Tory (Randy) Hayes of Swanville; grandson Matthew Cooper (Kimberly Owens) of Ogilvie; great-granddaughters Bailey and Darcey Hayes of Swanville; brothers David (Sharon) Cooper of Aitkin and Joe (Cathy) Cooper of Isle; sisters Harriet Sinell of Isle, Helen Ecklund of Isle, Karen (Wayne) Barneveld of Aitkin; and sister-in-laws Delpha Cooper of Isle, LaVonne Cooper of Isle, and Nancy Cooper of Finland.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Holden Lutheran Church in Isle with Rev. Elliot Malm officiating. Visitation was Thursday, March 29, 2012, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Mille Lacs Funeral Home in Isle as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Holden Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by the Isle Honor Guard. Casket bearers are Clyde Ecklund, Chuck Cooper, Steven Sinell, Gary Cooper, Tom Cooper, Eric Cooper, William Barneveld, and Jim Cooper.

Arrangements are by Mille Lacs Funeral Homes in Isle.
