Marian L. Alvar, 88, Silver Bay, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Sunrise Home in Two Harbors.
She was born Oct. 29, 1921, in Minneapolis to Dr. Stillman and Opal (Bates) Hathaway.
After graduating from Proctor High School, she attended Lawrence College and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha.
She was employed as a secretary at Mary MacDonald Elementary School for many years, was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church, and was active in a variety of organizations including the Order of the Eastern Star, a camera club, and Duluth Women’s Institute.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Genevieve Frisbee; and her husband of 47 years, Carl Alvar.
She is survived by her four children, Jim of Sun Lakes, Ariz., Ken of Middleton, Wis., Marcia of Portland, Ore., and Sheree King of Finland; five grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.
Services were Monday, at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors.
