Dorothy E. Waxlax, 95, died Aug. 3, 2010, at Sunrise Home in Two Harbors. She was born March 28, 1915, to Bert and Maggie Donovan in Two Harbors, where she lived most of her life.
Dorothy E. Waxlax, 95, died Aug. 3, 2010, at Sunrise Home in Two Harbors. She was born March 28, 1915, to Bert and Maggie Donovan in Two Harbors, where she lived most of her life.
She married Rueben Waxlax in 1940 and moved to California for a few years, where their only son Dan was born. They returned to Two Harbors, where Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for many years at Lake View Memorial Hospital and later Bacon Motors.
Dorothy was a long-time member of the United Church of Two Harbors and the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed singing in the church choir as well working in the kitchen at the Moose Lodge. Dorothy was well known for her fierce independence, her love of chocolate, a cutthroat game of cribbage, extensive travel in her later years, a passion for reading, and a routine of walking few miles every day until the last year or so. She greatly enjoyed her time at her cabin on Lax Lake and her family and friends.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy and delight.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by her son, Daniel (Judy) of Lax Lake; beloved granddaughter, Christina (Richard) Fuller, and beloved grandson Russell (Allicen) Waxlax; great-grandchildren Ashleigh, Sierra and Niah Fuller, and Rion and Allice Waxlax; sisters Ruth (Alvin) Lindstrom of Tucson, Ariz. and Muriel (Ray) Widen of Two Harbors; and several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Services were held at the United Church of Two Harbors.
