She was born June 13, 1944, to Edward and Lila (Mackey) Koski in Two Harbors, grew up in Toimi, attended grade school in Brimson, and high school in Two Harbors, graduating in 1962.
Judy was employed as a secretary in the superintendent’s office for Lake Superior School District for several years, and later as secretary for Johnson Controls in Duluth.
She married Russell Smith in 1972 and they made their home in Duluth where they owned and operated “The Hitching Post” on the Jean Duluth Road for several years.
Judy loved gardening, and animals and enjoyed rummage sales.
She was preceded in death by her father; her husband; a brother, Keith Koski; and a sister, Janet Powell.
She is survived by her mother, Lila Koski of Two Harbors; stepchildren, Cheryl Welch, Rusty Smith, Tim Smith, Wendy Leem-huis, Cindy Smith, Loval Yagos and Cami Smith; 10 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great- grandchildren; a sister-in- law, Erica Koski; nephews, Mark, Mike and Clint Powell; nieces, Kim Swartout and Marcy Bentler; and a special companion, her dog, Rocky. Private services will be held at a later date.
