Christine C. Woolever 89, Silver Bay, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay. She was born January 10, 1921, to Christ and Carrie Mortensen in Arnold, Wis., where she grew up.
Christine married John Woolever after the war in February of 1945. They welcomed their daughter, Diane, into their lives in 1946. In 1951, they moved to Minnesota, living in Lax Lake Cabins for a year. They then moved to Bear Lake for seven years, before returning to Lax Lake, where they lived for 45 years.
She then lived in Senior Apartments in Silver Bay for a year before moving to the Minnesota Veterans’ Home in Silver Bay, where she lived for the last eight years.
Christine worked at Malmo Drug in Silver Bay for 27 years, retiring in January of 1983. She was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church, Order of Eastern Star-Silver Star Chapter 308 for over 35 years, White Shrine in Two Harbors, and was an adult 4-H leader in Finland for more than ten years.
Christine loved cooking, baking, sewing, animals, and camping.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 53 years, John E. Woolever; sister, Solvig Bruehling; brother, Henry Mortenson; nephew, Paul Mortenson.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Berry; son- in-law, Eddy Berry; niece, Joanne Markel; nephews, Richard (Judy) Bruehling, James (Judy) Bruehling, Michael Mortenson, and Russell (Regie) Mortenson. Visitation will be from noon until the 1 p.m. service today (Friday) at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.
