Dorothy Jacobson, 93, a longtime resident of Madison, Wis., who also resided in the Split Rock area and Beaver Bay for many years, passed away on Aug. 2.She was born in Yuba, Wis., on Nov. 29, 1915, the daughter of Martin and Tena Rott. Her connection to the North Shore occurred when
she accepted a job at Silver Creek in 1941, where she met and soon married Leif Jacobson who resided there. After his untimely death in 1948 she remained close to her sister-in-law, Ragnhild Sve of Split Rock and moved
to that area in 1956 and later to Beaver Bay where she resided while raising her two sons.
She is survived by her two sisters, Mary Hansbery of Reedsburg, Wis., and Josephine Hansberry of Hillsboro, Wis.; her son, Roger Jacobson, his wife, Ellen, of Reno, Nev., and children Sharon and Steve; her son, Rodney Jacobson, his wife, Cindy, of Nokomis, Fla., and daughter, Amanda. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews of the Sve and Jacobson families and their children and grandchildren.
She will be remembered by her family, relatives and many friends as a strong, independent woman who, despite difficult financial circumstances after the tragic death of her husband, persevered to support herself and her two young sons.
That strength and independence stayed with her for her entire life. She will be remembered by her two sons as a wonderful, caring mother who worked very hard to raise them to be responsible, successful adults. She instilled in them her values of hard work, honesty and responsibility that served her so well for all of her 93 years.
She will be remembered and missed by all of the people whose lives she touched during her time with us on this Earth.
She will be buried beside her husband, Leif, at the Silver Creek Cemetery on Sunday, Aug. 9 at approximately 2 p.m.
