People lined the shore of Lake Superior near Knife River Wednesday evening as the HMS Bounty made anchor just off of Knife Island. Sailboats, cruisers, and even kayakers circled the impressive three-masted vessel. The ship, a replica of the one made famous by mutiny more than 200 years ago, has been used in seafaring films the past 50 years, including Marlon Brando’s “Mutiny on the Bounty” in 1960 and Johnny Depp’s more recent “Pirates of the Caribbean” films. The ship was being prepped for sail to Duluth today and the 2 p.m. parade that opens the Tall Ships Festival that runs through Monday. The ship’s home port is on Long Island in New York. Mike Creger
