I think it`s a great idea to have the memorial set up just as you enter town. Everything from brush and trees should be cleared away so it is in plan sight. Also, there should be a large sign reminding people to honk their horn as they pass. That way a new "honking tree tradition" can be started. I`m sure not one of the neighbors will mind at all at 3am, as the knuckleheads honk their arrival into Two Harbors.

Ironically, that site is just across the road from where the row of red pines that used to grace the entrance to town, were mowed down by the Burger King development. Those trees had been planted by the boy scouts in the 30's.

How long does it take to make a real decision up there?

I heartily agree with Monica about the placement. That corner on 7th Avenue is very attractive with its trees, and the location would give visibility to the memorial; everyone entering Two Harbors would notice it.

Thanks to the Two Harbors City Council for making a thoughtful and wise reconsideration. I appreciate it.

Since Two Harbors is the county seat, I would think the lighthouse there best represents the whole county--and maybe, if it's the model for the memorial, it will cease to be "lesser known." I'm too am really glad the council was willing to rethink its decision. Why not put the memorial in that area on the west end of 7th Avenue where all the trees have been planted? That way, an information kiosk about the tree, the expressway and even the history of Highway 61 and its import to the North Shore could be included.
