Sam Cave would treat our lighthouse like a yard ornament for his condos. Thanks for a great letter Mel.

re the r-h s-c, a step-child was often treated less well than the other children in a family, and a red-headed child might be looked upon with less favor (in an earlier era) than other children. A red-headed step-child would get the least favorable treatment of any other children in a family. It is a common idiom to decscribe the unfavorable treatment given to something in a situation where two or more of something might be competing for favor. tom koehler

Why does the city council treat the local lighthouse like a "red-headed-step-child"?!

Kudos to Mel on a well-written piece. Excellent summation in the last sentence. I like the alternate location idea for the monument.

IMHO the Two Harbors City Council made a very BIG mistake in not having the T.H. Lighthouse carved.

The more I talk with folks and think about the alternate choice of the Two Harbors Lighthouse for a carving, I agree with Thomas V. K. It seems to make more sense to promote the Two Harbors downtown and harbor area with our own landmark. If the anticipated improvement of the downtown area and the development of the are harbor take place, what an opportunity to point the way for visitors. I am not so sure we should miss out on this chance to support further promotion of the great harbor area we have.
