Sharon D., nice to know you are reading the Chronicle so far away out there in California. Thanks for your thought. Differences in opinion have always been the drivers behind positive changes in the human condition.

Mark B., don't bother to make a commentary on Mr. Bergman's opinion letter. We've all heard enough from you.

Todd...I contacted Mike Creger specifically about whether or not the exchange on the News and Opinion sections were purposefully deleted. Mike indicated they were doing some maintenance on the site, and when maintenance was completed all the commentary was lost. Ironically, as I indicated to Mike, this was a technical mishap in a small way similar to that which had happened in the Qwest situation. Good backup and recovery procedures would have allowed maintenance to occur, with reposting of the commentary after the maintenance was complete. I understand these types of situations occur, and can serve to point out the need for additional focus on good backup, restore and/or crisis management on the behalf of everyone. Had the paper paid better attention, nothing would have been lost. Had I saved copies of my commentary and Paul Bergman's commentary, I could have reposted all of it. As it turns out, the paper had a breakdown and lost the information, I didn't save copies of my comments since I was depending upon the paper, and a lot of effort and thought was lost. I am disappointed, but will hardly accuse the paper of poor "redundancy" in their data procedures, of lying to me about what happened, or hold forth the implication the paper, its leadership, or its employees weren't doing the best they could, under the circumstances, with the software, procedures and infrastructure they had in place. In its simplest form, that was the point I was trying to make to Paul Bergman in the first place: use the fiber breakdown experience positively, it wasn't some nasty corporate plot against the county or the safety and pocketbooks of the taxpayers. And, it wasn't something that might necessarily have been avoided if Lake County had its own broadband system. Mike has graciously allowed me the opportunity to prepare a commentary on Paul's opinion letter for publishing in the Chronicle. I may not make the deadline for this next issue because of the writing care necessary to fit into their standard publishing requirements. I will, however, see what I can do for a subsequent issue.

I'm disappointed the moderator deleted the exchange regarding the outage and broadband topic. There was a lot of real information shared there. Bad move!
