After two long years of meeting and planning the Two Harbors Community Radio is nearing a milestone. Pending the federal government’s return to full service, the local non-profit is planning to take advantage of the long-awaited opportunity and apply for an FCC license to operate a low power FM (LPFM) radio station.
The LPFM in Two Harbors will be a non-commercial, listener supported and volunteer driven operation providing emergency management communication services in times of severe weather and disasters. It is also intended to serve as a conduit for a wide range of other information about community issues and events.
While preparing to apply for the FCC license, THCR conducted an online and paper survey to assess the kinds of programs of interest to the community and to recruit volunteers. Two meetings in the next two weeks will provide the public with another opportunity to do so.
Join organizers of the THCR on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m., and Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. in the Two Harbors Public Library meeting room and make your opinions known, volunteer to be a part of the THCR, or make a donation. Donations of $5 or more earn donors bragging rights as charter supporters of the station— $20 or more entitle donors to a limited edition THCR t-shirt.
