The Two Harbors Agates lost their third game of the season to the Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels last Friday. It was their homecoming match.
The undefeated Rebels used their size and speed to knock the Agates down early and keep them there, allowing only one touchdown and scoring 44 points themselves.
“I thought our kids played with more intensity this week (than at) the game before against Marshall. We have been hurting ourselves with turnovers early in games and with the ball control offense we run, that is not conducive to what we are trying to do,” head coach Tom Nelson said.
For the Agates, junior Lucas Kempffer led the offense with 75 yards on 14 carries. He also scored their only touchdown after intercepting a Rebel pass and returning it 14 yards. On defense, seniors Kyle Omtvedt and Lane Cavallin led with 10 tackles each.
The boys played Deer River on Wednesday, a team with an almost identical record. Results were not available before press time. They start playoffs next Tuesday. If they won the Deer River game, they will play at home. If they lost, they will play at Deer River.
“We have dropped three games to teams that have a combined record of 17-4, and although we are very unhappy whenever we lose, I believe these last three games have made us a better team,” Nelson said.
