Two Harbors musher Ross Fraboni continues to lead after the second day of the inaugural three-day Gichigami Express Sled Dog Race in Cook County.
Fraboni had less than a minute lead over Ryan Redington of Wasilla, Alaska, after Sunday’s opening day, which left from Mineral Center, near Grand Portage, but increased his lead to four minutes after Monday’s route took mushers from Windigo to Devil Track. Fraboni has a total trail time of 8 hours, 38 minutes, compared to 8:42 for Redington.
Keith Aili (8:54) of Ray and Will Kornmuller (9:02) of Willow, Alaska, (9:02) also remain close in the chase for the $6,500 top prize, part of $25,000 event purse, as teams return to Grand Portage today.
