Tuesday, 35 vintage car enthusiasts motored up the North Shore as part of the 2013 Great Northern Tour organized by the Twin City Model A Ford Club. The lovingly restored vehicles were parked throughout Two Harbors while their drivers took in the sights of the Agate City.
Jerry and Fara Wayne Tayak, retired farmers from Monona, Iowa, pulled into the parking lot near the depot and got out of their 1930 Model A to stretch their legs. Jerry said he bought the car 52 years ago for $45. Fara Wayne offered that she and Jerry will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary next year and the car, now newly restored, is the vehicle Jerry had when they were courting . The couple’s sons weren’t sure that the car would ever see the open road again, but Jerry surprised everyone.
“We’ve moved nine times and we’ve moved the car nine times. I said ‘we’re getting pretty old, so you’d better get this done.’ And he did!” said Fara Wayne with a smile.
