Letter to the editor: Lake County Fair Board President responds
By: From Fair Board President Gayle Pierce, Lake County News Chronicle
There has never been a parking fee at the Lake County Fair and there has never even been talk of charging for parking. There is a gate fee of $5 per person over six-years old to attend the fair. The $5 fee is to help cover the cost of running the fair and bringing information and entertainment to those who attend.
The cost of the carnival alone was $13,000 this year. One year there was no carnival and the results were not good. The fair pays for judges for the 4-H program as well as those who enter open class. Anyone who observed the rabbit judge would have seen that she was well worth the fee. She was excellent at instructing the 4-H children and the open class entrants in what to look for to get a healthy, well proportioned, rabbit with good show qualities.
It is unfortunate that anyone had a bad experience at the gate. To be charged $20, there should have been a driver and three others in the vehicle. Maybe the writer of last week’s letter to the editor could become a fair board member and help make the changes that will make the fair better. It only cost $5 per year to be a member and willingness to come to the monthly meetings and do several hours of work to keep the grounds up and put on the fair.
