The “Under the Spreading Walnut Tree” Art Festival will be returning to Two Harbors for its 19th year on Aug. 10-11. Work by more than 25 artists, including featured artist, Chester Allen, will be available for purchase.
The event will take place on the grounds of the P.K. Anderson house, Highway 62 and Eighth Avenue from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. both days.
There will be musical performances by Thea Ennen and free workshops for adults and children between 2–4 p.m.

Tango — not just a dance
Come and hear the stories and songs of John Tango Iverson at 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 9, at Ecument Assisted Living and 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, at Louise’s Place. Twister tales wanted
Have you got a tornado story to share? Adventure Publications, of Cambridge, Minnesota is seeking true tales of Midwest tornado encounters to be published in an upcoming book. The book will feature accounts of everyday people’s strange, unique, compelling, even humorous experiences with the powerful weather phenomenon. Learn to help a friend, neighbor, or family member in crisis
Adult Mental Health First Aid Certification Training is being offered in Silver Bay. The 12-hour training helps participants identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders using a five-step action plan.
When: Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 14-15, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Sychar Lutheran Church, 14 Edison Boulevard, Silver Bay, Minnesota
Parking is free
Cost: $165 per person
Participants will receive 12 hours of training, an instruction manual, and a certificate upon successful completion of the course.
Seniors picnic with THUGS
