Local musicians to rock Mayor’s Block Party in TH
By: Chaviely Dellinger, Lake County News Chronicle
It’s that time of year again. In just one week the fifth annual Mayor’s Block Party will rock Two Harbors. The event, slated for Saturday, Aug. 17 will feature all of its usual attractions, including the bouncy house and activities for kids, but for the adult crowd, live music will be performed by an array of artists. In this week’s Lake County News-Chronicle we’re featuring three of the musicians who will be entertaining Block Party crowds. Next week we’ll introduce you to more, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled.
Damion DiFranco – is a solo acoustic artist who says music is a “huge part of his psyche” but he added humorously, “show me a man that says he learned guitar for a reason other than girls, and I’ll show you a liar.” Musical influences include Ray Lamontagne, Alice in Chains, and most currently, he’s been exploring the blues. Difranco will be playing at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Silver Creek United Musicians – Silver Creek United Musicians would normally feature guitar players Justin Bohrer and Ricky Wiita and drummer, Dalton ‘Bubba’ Krause. However, owing to a broken ankle, Bubba was unable to make the Block Party, so the job of keeping the beat for the band was undertaken by Mayor Randy Bolen. They groups influences, according to Bohrer, are many and include artists representing a wide range of genres — jazz, alternative, rock, and blues. The group’s sound is a unique blend and audiences will find something to please all tastes. Silver Creek United Musicians will be playing at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Ultrasounds – A band of four including Todd and Megan Hanson, Courtney Guenveur, and Amber Fletcher. The band features guitar, bass, and drums. Band influences include The Breeders, Nirvana, and Black Sabbath. Each band member’s style is different, but blends into one sound described as grunge-pop. The Ultrasounds will be playing the 4 p.m. time slot.
The Block party stage will be on First Avenue in Two Harbors. See the full schedule of events to make your plans!
