Harold W. Parks, 88, of Silver Bay died Monday, July 22, 2013 at Lake View Memorial Hospital in Two Harbors.
He was born on July 12, 1925 to Daniel and Lillian (Fox) Parks in Hill City, MN. Harold was raised by his aunt and uncle, Wilbur and Blanche Parks after both of his parents died at a young age. He worked various jobs before enlisting in the Marine Corps. when he was 17. Harold served in the 1st Armored Amphibian Battalion in Okinawa, Guadalcanal, and Guam. Upon his discharge in 1945 he worked construction, grocery, and farm jobs before moving to Silver Bay. He married Lillie Hoadley in 1949 and together they made their home in Silver Bay. Harold worked at Reserve Mining Co. until his retirement in 1985.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his loving wife of 59 ½ years, who was his companion in everything. Harold also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, woodworking, and gardening.
Harold was a member of the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay, the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lillie in 2008; brothers, Clarence, Leroy, and Lyle; and sister, Esther, Velma, and Grace.
Harold is survived by daughter and sons, Linda Parks of Silver Bay, Danny Parks of Duluth, Mike (Vicky) Parks of Silver Bay, and Rex (Karen) Parks of Silver Bay; grandchildren, Shane (Angie) Parks, Ryan (Nicolle) Parks, Keri and Stacy Parks, Kassie (Sean) McDonald, Ashlie (Jeff) Gaede, Amanda (Brad) Barstow, Kris Harris, and Lisa and Lily Herrick; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Kyle, Sam, Brett, Jenna, Audrey, Alexis, Aiden, Hunter, Cole, Chloe, Deynah, Lillie, Hunter, Julia, and Hailie; sisters-in-law, Margaret Wiltse, Florence Utech, Helen (Norman) Norby, and Luella (Carl) Jaspers; and many, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 PM until 7 PM on Friday, July 26 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors, and will continue on Saturday, July 27 from 10 AM until the 11 AM service at the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay.
