Thank You Silver Bay!When you’re nearing 60- years old, it’s nice to spend time with folks who remember you as a younger person. The William Kelley High School Class of 1973 experienced this when they gathered for a 40-year reunion on July 12-14 in Silver Bay. We started kindergarten in 1960.

When you’re nearing 60- years old, it’s nice to spend time with folks who remember you as a younger person. The William Kelley High School Class of 1973 experienced this when they gathered for a 40-year reunion on July 12-14 in Silver Bay. We started kindergarten in 1960.
Over half of our graduating class of 164 students joined the celebration. Sadly, 12 classmates are deceased.
An online e-Book and nametags helped us identify good old friends, teammates, and locker buddies. Some studied their 1973 “Silver Log” yearbook ahead of time.
We ate pancakes at the fire hall, threw candy from a Bay Days parade float, shared stories around a campfire at Bayside Park, and danced in the streets. Some just walked around town, naming all the families who had once lived in each house.
Though the “new” town of Silver Bay (est. 1954) has aged like all of us, we still found that old sense of community spirit!
The nature of our class reunions has changed over time, too. A great bond has developed with the passage of time and shared life experiences (marriages, divorces, family issues, losses, transitions, job changes, deaths of loved ones, and health concerns). There’s less competition and a genuine kinship. We talked about retirement, instead of first jobs. We talked about caring for aging parents, instead of new babies. We talked about high costs of medical insurance, instead of costs of a first home. We talked about grand-parenting, instead of parenting.
Thanks to the Silver Bay Municipal Bar & Lounge for providing a gathering place! Thanks to Zup’s, Jimmy’s Pizza, Bob Jensen, Jeremy Lushine, and Bill Johnson for help, donations and discounts! Thanks to the Bay Days committee for a full weekend of fun!
Thanks to local organizers and helpers: Lou (Keller) Elam, Steve & Patsy (Rounds) Betzler, Susie (Lorntson) Johnson, Sherry (Johnson) Gilbert, Lauri (Olson) Hohman, Sharon (Mattilla) Babbitt, and Vickie Lee Thompson!
Thank you, Silver Bay, for welcoming us home!
