Finland celebrates co-op centennial

The Finland Co-op’s centennial celebration took place last Saturday. Among the many activities and events, there were minnow races, a scavenger hunt, and three - legged races.
“We all had a really good time,” said Finland resident Honor Schauland. “The day’s activities had to be modified somewhat because of the rain, but it all worked out. We gave away a ton of ice cream, the potluck dinner was huge and amazing, and we had a record number (at least in recent memory) of attendees at the 100th annual business meeting!”
Polka music, a must-have for any northern Minnesota event, was provided by Donna Illakanen and the Melody Makers.
Another event in recognition of the centennial — a play about the history of the co-op — has been planned for October, but until then, commemorative t-shirts and other items will be for sale at the store.
