Welcome, interns: Claire Hoffert

I have always loved writing and reading stories, whether it was making up plays in my head when I was little, writing short stories in my English classes, or recounting my thoughts of the day in the many journals I’ve owned throughout the years.
This culminated in my 11th grade English teacher recommending me for this internship. Though I was nervous to start an actual job, I was intrigued by the possibility of writing real stories that would be read by more than my high school teachers.
Now that the internship has begun, I hope to come up with interesting stories about people, places, and events that capture the richness of living in this beautiful area. Many talents, opportunities, and activities go unseen in Lake County and I would like to shed light on some of them this summer.
I am entering my senior year at Two Harbors High School and plan to make this the best year yet. Co-captaining my volleyball team in the fall, I love being in a sport that so relies on teamwork and each player being in synch with the others. I am involved in many choir activities, and one of my favorite things to do is perform musically in as many school concerts as possible. At home, I am constantly singing. Luckily, my family doesn’t mind. I also love being involved in many different activities — student council, enviroclub, the Northland Youth in Philanthropy Board, and the National Honor Society — so I can experience as much as possible.
I hope these experiences will prepare me for college, where I plan to major in International or Peace and Justice Studies, and a foreign language, with a minor in vocal music. I would also love to study abroad and travel to learn about other cultures and people.
But for now, I look forward to learning from the residents of Lake County. I hope to meet you this summer!
