Rita J. Rushenberg, age 70, passed away Monday, June 3 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Rita was born Aug. 10, 1942, in Two Harbors, Minn. to Frank and Agnes (Lind) Thorngren. She married John Rushenberg on Sept. 24, 1960, in Silver Bay, Minn. They lived in Silver Bay until moving to Becker in 1988. Rita worked as a legal assistant for Johnson & Morris in Silver Bay, Donahue & Rajkowski in St. Cloud, and was the office manager for the Sherburne County Historical Society in Becker. She and John retired in 2001 and have spent their winters at their retirement home in Mission, Tex., since then. Rita was a member of Church of Mary of the Visitation, VFW Post #6204 Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, and the Arthritis Foundation. Rita was a private pilot. She enjoyed music, playing piano for groups of people, flying her airplane, her cats, swimming and spending time with her friends and family, especially the numerous family-like friends in Texas.
Survivors include her husband, John of Becker; son, Patrick (Vanessa) of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, Jessica, Kate and Timothy Rushenberg; brother and sister, Allen Thorngren and Lois McMillen of Silver Bay; and sister-in-law, Jean Thorngren of Silver Bay. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; son, Timothy in October of 2009; brother, Richard; and sister-in-law, Margaret Thorngren.
Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 27, at Church of Mary of the Visitation in Becker. Rev. Eugene Doyle will officiate and burial will be Saturday, June 29, at Beaver Bay Cemetery in Beaver Bay, Minn. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Becker.
