Letter to the editor: City lineworkers deserve wage increase
By: From Dick Scoville, Two Harbors, Lake County News Chronicle
I work as a lineman for Coop Light and Power. I have many friends that work at the City of Two Harbors. There is a huge disparity in wages and benefits between the City of Two Harbors and Cooperative Light and Power. Lineman wages are approximately $10 an hour more at the Coop.
My friends that still work for the City are only asking for a slight wage increase — not even any kind of catch up — to get them closer to wages of the Coop’s linemen.
The City of Two Harbors should be negotiating its own contracts instead of hiring a contract negotiator to do it. In other cities, the city administrator has control of negotiations and doesn’t hire a third party.
The city government needs to prove that it cares about clean safe drinking water and keeping your lights and power on. Your workers at the City do. Please call your city council, your Mayor or the City Administrator. Don’t wait until you’re looking for a phone number in the dark.
