Wayne W. Carlson, 82, formerly of Toimi, died Sunday June 2 in the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay.
He was born May 3, 1931, to Jacob and Minnie (Wartianen) Carlson in Toimi, Minn. Wayne grew up and attended the Toimi School, before graduating from Two Harbors High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. Wayne worked for Reserve Mining, as a laborer and heavy equipment operator at the NorShore Section House.
Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family. He also loved exploring the outdoors, especially the Boundary Waters during his younger years.
He is preceded in death by parents and three siblings, Paul, Bertha, and Uno.
Wayne is survived by children Tina (Jim) Carlson Bjortomt of Chetek, Wisc., Jodi (Peter) Ray of Carmel, Ind., Darik (Lorry) Carlson of Duluth, and Patrick Carlson of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren Lindsay (Tom) Christiansen, Jason Ray, Alex Ray, and Hannah Carlson; great-grandson Anthony; and his family of friends and staff at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay.
