Lake County business owner nominated for award

Greg Hull, owner of Hull’s Sawmill in Silver Creek, was recently nominated for a Joel Labovitz Entrepreneurial Success Award. The Labo awards have been given to small business owners throughout the Arrowhead for two decades.
Hull said that he was nominated for the Mature Entrepreneur Award by Steve Peterson of the Northeastern Minnesota Entrepreneur Fund and that his wife, Shele, convinced him to complete the nominee questionnaire, although in true Minnesota fashion, he described being uncomfortable answering questions about his own success. Discomfort notwithstanding, Hull said it wasn’t all bad.
“It was a big surprise to me, and a very humbling moment, when I found out,” he said.
He managed to escape the event at which the awards were presented, owing to a previously planned hunting trip.
“To avoid going to the banquet, I ran away to Alaska for 10 days, out of all contact with civilization,” he quipped, leaving Shele and son Joshua to attend and receive the certificate of nomination.
