Letter to the editor: ‘Ex-girlfriend’ shooting target out of line with community values
By: From Katie Ringer, Brimson, Minn., Lake County News Chronicle
I recently read an article stating that retail site Amazon.com was stopping sale of one of their products due to numerous petitions and public outcry. The product is a life-like, scantily-clad female mannequin manufactured by target company Zombie Industries. The target is named “The Ex-girlfriend, Alexa” and bleeds when shot. Testimonials of those who buy the product praise it for resembling their ex-wives and girlfriends. I was repulsed and scared after reading that a product like this exists. Growing up in our neck of the woods, I have always respected guns as tools used for sport and pest control, but feared how their deadly force has been used over and over against the innocent in our country. The selling of a product that incites fatal force against mothers, daughters, sisters and wives absolutely upsets me. The fact that it is being sold in places frequented by families with children I find to be even more upsetting. I decided to write this letter with the hope that a message may be sent that ours is a community that will not tolerate the promotion of violence against women.
