Citizen of the Year honors went to Daryl Johnson at the Two Harbors Area Chamber of Commerce banquet March 12. Johnson taught music for 35 years and is the director of Superior Sound, a community choral group in Two Harbors. He has also been very active in various committees for the betterment of the community, a passion he said he shared with his late wife Vicki.
Kay Swanson is the Chamber’s Volunteer of the Year. Swanson started volunteering at the Two Harbors food shelf shortly after she moved to the area in the mid-90s. She spent numerous hours collecting and delivering food items and helping meet the needs of those less fortunate. She is still a food shelf volunteer and is active in the community.
Castle Danger Brewery was named Small Business of the Year at the Two Harbors Area Chamber of Commerce banquet. Clint and Jamie McFarlane, who own the brewery, also own and operate Castle Haven Resort north of Two Harbors. Castle Danger Brewery is slated to expand its operation to the downtown area of Two Harbors in the near future.
Canadian National is the Chamber’s choice for Large Business of the Year. CN employs over 100 full time jobs in Two Harbors and supports local events such as the Community Block Party. It also supports the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, Lake County Railroad Museum and the local Chamber of Commerce.
