Dorothy Erlene Johnson, 93, of Two Harbors, died peacefully, Thursday, March 7, in St. Luke's Hospice.
She was born in Two Harbors on April 5, 1919, to Esther and Nels Sandness.
Dorothy was a 1937 graduate of Two Harbors High School and had worked as a bookkeeper at the Two Harbors Coop Store and the Lake County Treasurers office. She was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Dorothy married Emmett Johnson on July 6, 1946, the love of her life. During their 67 years, they enjoyed their life together raising a family on the Silver Creek homestead and spending time at McDougal Lake with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Esther; brothers Allen, Norman and Jorund; son-in-law, Gary Staples; brother-in-law, Earl Hedin; and sisters-in-law Sparling and Norma Sandness.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Emmett; children Wayne (Karen) of Spokane, Wash., Carol Staples of Cherry, Minn. and David (Sharon) of Duluth; three grandchildren, Scott (Stacia) Staples, Katie (Jasen) Hoglund and Kori (Andy) Shepard; six great-grandchildren, Lauren and Andrew Staples, Jack, Zachary and Aubrey Hoglund and Ella Shepard; sister-in-law Bernice Sandness; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dorothy loved to be with her family and especially her grandchildren. She was a wonderful baker of oatmeal cookies, chocolate drop cookies and salted peanut cookies just to name a few. In her later years she loved working on Sudoku puzzles, word jumbles, and cryptoquips from the newspaper. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of St. Luke's Hospice and the staff in CICU for all their compassion and support.
Visitation was 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Monday, March 11, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Two Harbors (601 Fourth Ave). To sign the online guestbook, please visit www.cavallinfuneralhome.com
