Beargrease volunteers still needed

Laura D’Ambrosio is racing the clock to get everything ready for mushers and the canine athletes that will be running the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon this weekend.

D’Ambrosio said she called the organizers of the annual race just a couple weeks ago and asked if she could help. By the end of the phone call she said she’d been recruited to be the coordinator of the Two Harbors checkpoint. The Twin Cities resident will be in the North Country to provide support to a friend who’s mushing up on the Gunflint earlier in the week, but said she’ll be ready when the Beargrease teams make their way into Lake County.

“The need was in the pit in Two Harbors so that’s where I’ll be,” she said, but more volunteers are needed.

“I’ve got a group coming up from the Redwing Environmental Learning Center, but we need people to help with parking, beverages…you know, people to keep everyone fed and warm,” she said.

Volunteers can call D’Ambrosio at 612-860-0205.
